1947 Porto Rocha Colheita Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

Bottled in 1996 with a T-cork. I've never seen a note on this and this is the only bottle I've ever seen of this. The color is a moderate cola tan with a little bit of a green meniscus. Lots of old mahogany chest, cloves, and then a couple hours later some VA notes on the nose. There is a lot of orange peel and marmalade, along with honey, and some sweet brown sugar on the palate. This also still has retained some nice acidity and hasn't yet gotten fat and round as some Colheita's do when in bottle a long time. Though it probably would be crisper had this been enjoyed closer to the bottling date. But that's a minor quibble. The finish does bring out just a little protruding spirit, but despite that it still is long and retains an wonderful complexity. A real treat made even more enjoyable sharing with a couple fellow Port lovers.
