NV Quinta do Portal very old tawny -- sample

Post by Eric Menchen »

Believed to be nearly 100 years old, this was poured from a large jug (demijohn?) at the quinta.

Aromas of deep wood, concentrated sugar with a hint of molasses, lemon & lime, and toasted graham cracker. Swirling reveals some spirit. The sugar smells like it was nearly burnt in the pan. Really concentrated with lots of sugar complexity in the mouth, but more acidity to give better balance. After sitting in the glass, the stewed character was stronger, almost too much. A swirl released that. 97 points. Later, there was a lemon gum drop flavor.
