Bottled in 2000. Medium to light caramel color. Strong evidence of wood aging, as the secondary and tertiary elements are very prominent. An overload of caramel, toffee, grilled chestnuts and melted butter literally leap out of the glass and assault the senses. Long, luscious and soul warming. This would be great on a cold winter night. A bit more primary fruit would be nice, but I am nit-picking. Beautiful colheita.
Opened in celebration of the Portuguese under-21 national football team's miraculous win over Russia. They had to win by at least 3 goals to advance... they won 3-0.

I had this on Sunday night and am just now finishing my last sips. Fantastic wine and the distinct difference (although bottled in '99) was the much darker color than reported above. Looking in the glass this was a dead ringer for prune juice. My TN will be in the next newsletter.

Thanks for the note! Was your sample decanted much? Unfortunately I opened my bottle for a party and it received absolutely no air. I wonder if a Colheita's color changes much with decanting as it can with vintage ports?Roy Hersh wrote:I had this on Sunday night and am just now finishing my last sips. Yes and no.
Yes, my bottle was decanted at 1 p.m. and we did not start drinking it until almost 5:30 p.m. I finished my last sips at about 2 a.m. as I had reserved a glass for analytical purposes to prepare my formal tasting note.
No, the color did not change in this case, from the moment it was opened through the time about 13 hours later, when I finished off that last glass. With that said, there was a significant change in body weight and palate presence, as well as the integration of alcohol which was quite excessive during my drinking of this wine in the late afternoon.
