Would be nice if you added the known number of cases made in parenthesis for each shipper?

I saw today that Romaneira only made 1100 cases [shok.gif]
We can add cases. Just list them as you know them.

Thanks guys!

Also to be noted, another pair of declarations by RP:

“An exceptional year - the 2017 is without a doubt up there with our best Vintages.” stated Jorge Rosas, Ramos Pinto CEO, during the 2017 Ramos Pinto Vintage and 2017 Quinta de Ervamoira vintage launching today in London.

It appears Real Compania Velha is declaring their 2017 Quinta das Carvalhas VP based on this FB post today.

To be accurate from TFP;

Croft
Croft Quinta da Roeda "Serikos"
Fonseca
Taylor's
Taylor's Vargellas Vinha Velha
Wiese & Krohn

Quite the line up for sure. Can't wait to try them.

We are almost at a general declaration - except that at the BFT last week, the Sogrape people didn't think there would be an Offley or Sandeman '17

Given the quality of the '17s I tried that day, I very much hope they change their minds and join the party..

Given recent history, we're already there. All that's required these days is for TFP and SFE to declare in the same year. If either doesn't declare, it's not a general declaration.

(I'm not saying that's the way it should be, just that that's the way it's been for the last several declarations.)

Andy has omitted the diacritic (e-macron) in “Sērikos”. Observe how the “ē” didn’t make it into its URL:
http://www.croftport.com/en/catalogue/r ... 7-vintage/

(Port not tasted. Naming it ‘silken’ is good. But I’m not a fan of the non-Portuguese diacritic.)

Is a diacritic really needed? :stir:

+1

The term general declaration is not officially defined so is somewhat subjective and outdated given the vast number of new small producers, but if 1966 and 1977 made the grade without Cockburn I don't see why 2017 wouldn't do the same without Sandeman.

Don't disagree - and of course Noval didn't declare '77 either.

Given that both Offley and Sandeman have declared 'extra' years in the past, it would be a little odd to pass on '17 though.

- Any word from Churchill BTW?

Note, partly to self: of the fonts previously used for placemats (links on jdawiseman.com, on FTLOP), there are “ē”s in the AmericanTypewriter family, in the AvenirNext family, in the DejaVu family, and in the MyriadPro family.

Unquestionably, it takes SFE and TFP to agree in their decisions for a General Declaration, even though this is an unwritten rule. Starting with 2011 vintage in June 2013, which Tom attended as well, the Confraria do Vinho do Porto, has been doing the official declarations two years hence, with ceremonies and tastings of the Generally Declared vintages. They chose not to declare 2015, even though there was a lot of pressure to do so at the time. Last year, the 2016 did have a formal ceremony, the first since 2011 was Generally Declared.

With 3 very solid harvests in a row and 2016/2017 the first back to back General Declarations, history has been changed. The ramifications will be very interesting to say the least. I am considering going back to A Question For the Port Trade in the next newsletter and addressing this topic and learning the vision of many people in the trade. Might even interview the new IVDP President for his response too.
