TN: 2015 Casal da Coelheira Mythos

Post by Andy Velebil »

I opened this Tejo wine last night, which I had run across recently at a wine shop near me. Never having it, I figured I'd splurge on the not-cheap $44 bottle. The label says it's 40% Touriga Nacional, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Touriga Franca. A very odd indescribable note on the nose was, perhaps, a sign of what was to come. Over three hours this didn't change from what can only be described as an overtly tannic wine with no describable fruit and one of the biggest hollow palate and finish I've had in a Portuguese wine in a long time. It was not corked nor did it seem faulty in any other way. This is either in one of the most closed phases I've ever seen or it was just a poorly made wine.

That's my favorite wine from them. It's got to be a bad bottle.

That’s good to hear. I’ll have to find another bottle and give it a go again. The store only had the one bottle.

I didn’t even notice until you mentioned it. I know she doesn’t import bad things. Hopefully I can find another bottle sometime soon.
