Converted Church Basement Madeira & Port

Post by Daniel Fraley »

Hi All, I stumbled across this store while in Funchal last week and thought I'd share. Apparently it's a converted church, with the first floor being primarily tourist chachkies. However, in the basement is a pretty substantial collection of madeira, port and some liquor accumulated by the former clergy? If you inquire with the sales person, they'll unlock the door and take you downstairs to shop. I didn't have a ton of time to look around but have to think there's some finds to be had. There are thousands of bottles... I saw a 1905 Barros Terrantez at the top of the stairs.
