a competitor for the Durand

Post by Glenn E. »

Just ran into this randomly while making a purchase at Rue Pinard. (Which used to be Old Liquors... AFAIK they're still in Miami.)

Fun design especially if you're a Star Trek fan, but the main thing is that it's significantly less expensive than the Durand.

If you look at the pictures, the whole thing is 5" high and the worm appears to be very slightly more than half of that. So 2.5" or maybe a tiny bit more?

Which of course means nothing to me because I have no idea how long a corkscrew worm usually is!

I saw the measurements of the device and the curlicue portion of it is only 0.6 inches. I believe a cork is what? About an inch?

I think that measurement is the thickness of the device, not the length of the worm.

Good catch Glenn, thanks. I think it can be found on Ebay as well for about $6 cheaper. I may pull the trigger on it to see if it works.

I've got way too many corkscrews including the shorter and the longer Durand.

Me to, but... but... this one is a Starship!

It's probably worth the $30 just because it's vaguely Star Trek adjacent.

If you liked Bordeaux, you could use it to open some Château Picard.
