1980-1995 LBV Tasting in New Jersey, USA

Post by John M. »

Greetings Port Lovers;

Mike W, Matt W, Lucas and I are organizing a tasting and have room for more. Know it is a long shot but still want to offer the invitation.

We are going to cap at 12 people and so far have 6.5 commitments: Cost will be about $155 to $180 per person for Port, dinner, corkage fees and tip (i.e. All In!)

Location: Watchung Valley Golf Club, 600 Mountain Blvd, Watchung, NJ USA

Date: June 7, 2025 from 3 to 8 pm

The Line Up: 12 Late Bottled Vintages (LBVs) from the 80s and 90s.

Dinner: It will be included. 3 Courses. Details in the works.

Cost: $155 to $180 per person including the Port. Exact amount to be determined

Other Tidbits: These will be served sighted; already odd enough. Includes 4 Smith Woodhouses and 4 Warres

If interested PM me, also include your email address. Thanks, John

Very nice!

If I wasn't out of town already that weekend, I would have seriously considered driving down for this. Sounds like great fun!

Moses--

I'd like to say a "half-wit" but someone who was on the fence. They now cannot. Still room if you'd like to attend!

I asked the wife if she was interested. We'll discuss it tonight. Need to find a dog sitter.

And while I appreciate Andy's tasting notes, I don't think this is quite right either:

The various search engine bots can get stuck at times, and that can cause very large numbers like that.

Or it could have been some kind of rudimentary DOS attack. I have no clue why anyone would target a forum like FTLOP, but we do occasionally get hit by hackers.

One small change to the lineup. We replaced the 1992 Warre's with a 1998 Graham's. This will give us 7 different Producer's and 7 different years.

Hopefully this pings you, John. I’ll also try a DM. I’m trying to be more regular about popping into the forum, but would love a ping the next time you’re pulling a tasting together. Have (somewhat) recently moved nearby and would love to connect with more Port folks. Sounds like it was a great tasting!

Hi Bradley,

John and I are in the process of planning a 1995 VP / SQVP Tasting for mid-November. We're still sorting out the date, but we would love to have you attend. Anyone that's reading this is welcome to attend (we're looking at you Moses, Mike K., Vince & Tym). John or I will post something on the board in the next week or two with more details and a date, but in the meantime, if you're interested, just PM John or I.

Where are you located now, Bradley?

Yes, John got in touch and I sent him the dates I'd potentially be available. Thank you! Im in Bethlehem now (at least the majority of the month), so just a quick jaunt down 78 to make most things in NJ.

You're real close then. You're about 45 minutes tops from John and probably about an hour from where we'll most likely hold the 1995 tasting.
