For me it was the 64 Guimarens beautiful and value. Then 67 Noval both a great surprise. These can be quite hard to get a hold of now but keep an eye out for them. The 64 is just great and will keep on the plateau for some time.

The '82 Taylor's Terra Feita, that I liked better than both the '80 and '85 Taylor's.

Biggest surprise of the last year

Post by Paul Eddy »

For me it has been a Croft LBV 1984 which I had the other night.
I picked it up for under £12.00 at auction and was not expecting much.
The surprise was that it was delicious. Lots of lovely fruit on the nose and palate ,
a lovely background of honey giving an overall impression
somewhat reminiscent of cherry brandy. Would I buy a case of it ?
Definitely.

Harvey's [Martinez] 1985

This surprised me for two reasons - (1) it isn't a big name VP and (2) it had been stored under just about the worst conditions imaginable for 20 years. Despite both reasons, it was one of the best ports I have tasted. Very good indeed 8)

1977 Quarles Harris. By no means a great VP, it was much better than I thought it would be.

Niepoort 2000 : I was so surprised to see that VP evolving like this. It looked like gaining concentration and power compared to 4 years ago on release. I bought more this week-end.

For me it was Colheita ports in general, which I had not experienced prior to the past 12 months. Then digging deeper it was White Colheita, which you could have never convinced me I would have liked so much a year ago.
