Event: Port Tasting Notes

Alan,

Since you seem to be "drink loads of the lesser Ports" how about some TN's on them. Most people drink more of the "lesser" bottles, than of VP, and notes on those "lesser" Ports are just as important as for a VP. Now, where is that pot-stirring emoticon at when I need it??

AS for a score. I take a score with a grain of salt. I prefer, as do many others, to read the entire TN. That gives me much more info about a bottle, than some little point score. I've had 95+ rated wines that I did not like, and some I know I would not like based on the TN description, so a TN is very important.

I cant argue with your lesser ports point. I will try harder!

And like I've been saying to Todd, I'm willing to accept the majority view on 'scores'. Yes I know their limitations, and Tom makes a good point, such things aren't overly important at this stage. I was just hoping for an all-inclusive Thread, so Nuts like me could use it in a way thats suits my Nutty style.

Glad to read there are no serious issues here. Not a single post locked or deleted. Thrilling.

Now if only Alan would get off his arse and contribute ... a tasting note that is, it would certainly go a long way when he next whines.

We´ll see simple TNs and meanwhile he'll put a page and a half of descriptors in his own notebook.

If you can, pick up some Taylor 2000 or 2001 LBV and let us know what you think of them. I have long-suspected that we are of similar taste Alan, let's see what your notes are like compared to my own.

You should also try to find a "new" VP for the June Virtual Tasting... check out the theme - your favourite: fruit bombs!

As far as ManU are concerned, that seems to be one of only two teams whose games are broadcast around my neck of the woods on my "peasant vision" so I gotta cheer for SOMEONE.

No, like the Jackson 5 we are ABC around here too.

My ancient method was quite easy - CCFC then anyone but Leeds.

Then MU came back in after relegation (which nobody laughed about, honest Guv). So it was CCFC then anyone but Leeds and Man U, oh and horrible, boring Arsenal. Followed by anyone but Leeds and MU. This didn't matter much as neither of them won the league.

Recently Crystal Palace or Queens Park Rangers or some other no-use-to-anybody-yo-yo-London club got taken over by a ludicrously rich Russian (Charlton, that's it, no sorry the other one) and got loads of money to spend despite no support and no crowds and no love from anybody. You can see why they aren't popular.

Is this a thread drift?

PS: I can vouch for the fact that Alan is made of rocks and is 7'2" - apparently he has a soft centre but I don't think it will ever be revealed to the outside world due to 30 years of Police training.

Does nobody else play on other boards?

1. The 'TN:' is surely redundant in a TN section;

2. Scores are always optional, it is better to have the notes than the numbers you Parkerite score-whores;

3. Replies to a TN are useful to the original poster and other viewers;

4. Surely leaving it up to a particular poster as to whether they create a new thread or reply to an old one rather than creating rules is the way to go;

5. This is a new forum area, that's all. It's not the end of old humanity and the start of new humanity;

6. If you want a big searchy thingy, go and use CellarTracker. I'm sure we can get those notes posted onto here;

7. Thanks Stewart, this is just what was needed, good job.

Alex "Killer B" has nailed my thoughts exactly, on all points above. In #3 above: as long as the posts stay on 100% focused on the specific TN, great, otherwise I'll immediately put the padlock on the thread.

Tom's comment about starting each TN in this Forum with the four digit year of the harvest whenver possible, would certainly make most TNs easier to search for.

So far, things seem to be working quite nicely. Thank you all.

I am limited only by my meagre income in making it that way just with my TNs alone!

Of course, Parker or Meyson I am not! :)

We'll get there! I suspect Uncle Tom and Alex would likely be able to fill this puppy up with all the tasting notes they have, if they had it in a central place. If not, Stewart has a pretty good-sized task ahead of him getting them all over here

Agreed. Stewart will not be doing the migration work of TNs. He has a pretty full plate for the foreseeable future.
