2003 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port

Post by João Rico »

Opened and poured as this was a half-bottle. Very dark in color, almost like black ink with purple edges. Aroma of Blackberries, raisins and plums, dark chocolate and some floral hints (after 2h decanted). Full bodied, elegant, but really strong, tannins and a beautiful long finish. As everyone says, this is another huge vintage from Noval. Outstanding

For a potential Blockbuster like this one and many other similar Ports, I was amazed to see 'Experts' throw in a time period where the author considered it would enter its drinking window.
I started a thread in the Port Basics asking how this was done. The common consensus was that it was at best a Guestimate and was very loosely based on similar products and experience. There were countless examples of the experts being hopelessly off the mark.
But of course there's nothing wrong with having a guess! :)
