1999 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port
375ml, one of four purchased in August 2002. When first opened, there was no fragrance, no alcohol or tannins, and no finish. All that was perceptible was dull fruit. After 24 hours, the alcohol was apparent on the back of the mouth, not integrated. There was very little mouth feel and nothing remained in the mouth after swallowing. After 36 hours the alcohol had integrated with the fruit and there were some soft tannins. The wine is pleasant to drink, but has no complexity. This is the strangest vintage port I have had.

Finished the bottle at forty-eight hours. At that time, the tannins had increased and improved the wine. Still no complexity in flavor. This was not decanted, but remained in the bottle until finished. After looking at the tasting note for this wine in the Tasting Notes section, I find it hard to believe that this is the same wine.
