Opened Christmas Day. At 4 hours , layers of subtle fruit on the nose. Rose petal, ripe strawberries. A little cinnamon. 8 hours, still evolving. Not a big port, very subtle , nice mouth feel. Hits all areas of the palate but not in a big way. A little buttery, cooked raspberry Linzer torte flavors. Lingering but not overpowering finish. If I am awarding points, a very nice 90.
I agree with others who have rated this wine in recent months. It needed to be drunk.

As you've probably read before, this was my "house Port" during the mid-1990s. I bought cases of this at $29/btl. and loved it early and often and kept refilling a bottomless decanter for sipping during my nightly writing on the old AOL wine message boards and hosting a wine chat on AOL back then.
Early in this decade it started to show signs of maturity and reaching its peak. I believe it is still on a plateau that will allow it to drink at this level for a few more years to come before it heads into the Tawny realm. Bottles that were not stored well along the way, have already shown signs of turning that corner from what I've read, but have not seen that and it may just be time to revisit this VP from one of my own bottles.
Thanks for your impressions Richard and best wishes for a great 2008!

Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com
