1997 Ferreira Vintage Port

Post by Michael M. »

Ruby colour, little signs of maturity at the edge. In the nose red fruits, not very open; on the palate red fruits, cedar, later prune plum. This one has more an elegant than a blockbuster style. But there is a lot of backbone. During the first hours alkohol and tannins were standing out. After 24h they both were better intergrated. Even after 36h it was a great pleasure to drink this one. I would say that this VP has a good potential.

I liked this VP a lot. I must say that I was really impressed. Now I can understand you Ferreira nuts. If I had to rate this Port I would (easyly) give 92 points.

Cheers
Michael

At the risk of beeing regarded pretty funky: the Ferreira 1997 VP reminded me in respect of its elegant style a bit of Noval 1997 VP we had some months ago. Amongst the 1997 VP I tasted so far I would put it at the 2nd position behind Noval and considerably in front of Pocas, Rozès and Sandeman Vau.
