1983 Fonseca Vintage Port

Post by SEAN C. »

This bottle of the 1983 Fonseca was remarkably different from our previous tasting. In the glass it was a dark blackberry color and had almost no alcohol on the nose. On the palate were wonderful flavors of grape and black raspberry. Five hours of decanting was just what this Port needed to open up and reach a decent drinking state.

Here are our previous notes from another tasting with only 2 hours of decanting:

The 1983 Fonseca had a heavy nose of alcohol mixed with cedar and raisin. It was light in color for it's age. The taste was dominated by raisins, and figs with a small amount of olive brine. Overall very sweet tasting with a respectable 14 second finish.
