Re: PORT Trivia
Is this the number of glasses of Port you estimate you have drank over the years??? Man, I got some catching up to do!
Just kidding. I would guess that 120,000,000 grapes per year go into the production of Port, but perhaps that seems low, now that I think about it.

Re: PORT Trivia
That sounds like it might be in the right range to be the number of bottles of Port produced in 2007? Seems high, but within reason if I remember the history correctly.

Re: PORT Trivia
I assume that's a new record, then? The history I was thinking of was the fact that shipments peaked at around 80 million bottles at (I think) the turn of the century before dropping back significantly around the world wars. As I recall it wasn't until much later (possibly the 60's or 70's?) that production reached that peak again. I just sort of assumed that production continued to increase after that, but even so 120 million bottles is a lot of Port!

Re: PORT Trivia
That is a lot of Port and knowing the players on this board, I'm sure we account for a sizable chunk of that

Re: PORT Trivia
Actually 10 million cases of Port does not sound like a lot to me, especially when considering that France purchases around 2.5 million cases or 25% of the total! That really is not a big number for worldwide sales considering the number of companies in the Port trade. Sure, I do realize 85%-90% of Port is sold by the 5 top companies.
