2000 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

This was decanted about 24 hours by the time I took this TN, as it came on the heels of many dry wines the night before and I was in no shape to write a TN then  . The color is still very dark purple and it stains the glass as I swirled it. Just a beautiful young dark blueberry nose with light scents of eucalyptus in the background. This young VP had loads of tannins and good acidity to balance it out. The dry and dusty cocoa powder and bosenberry palate kept me longing for more when the decanter was finished. The finish was quite long and brought home a solid VP that still has plenty of life left ahead of it. I would let the rest of mine lay for at least another 10 years before trying another one. I debated between 92 and 93 points for some time, finally settling on the previous one as the fruit was just a little tight still. But I have no doubts this will bump up a point or so as it ages and comes into its own. 92+ points.

It is about time, you drank something older don't you think?

I have not had this in some time, so it was great to read a reference point. Thanks Andy, glad to see this is coming along nicely. I have a feeling this won't even begin to really show what it's made of, for another decade or so.
