1963 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

Upon opening I knew something was not right with this bottle. It was an ugly brown that looked oxidized. The nose was simply burnt brown sugar. The palate had some cinnamon and spice, but was very tawnied and obviously oxidized. The finish was clipped and very hot. I should stated this was from a bottle that had past signs of seepage and. Obviously an off bottle. 78 points

Another note from a different bottle.
This one English Bottled by "Edouard Robinson, London" (a totally new name to me and Google struck out as well). Interestingly the typed label also had a post-code - which I don't recall being used in the mid 60's in UK; but perhaps only attached when finally sold.
Certainly still holding its colour well, but as always (for me) obtrusive alcohol on the nose. Flavours were more in the treacle end of the spectrum (came from a good cellar - but who knows what storage was over its life). Still some tannin but lacked the flowery nose I associate with Taylor. Overall a nice port - but I expect more from Taylor!
