1985 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

Post by Kris Henderson »

Dark red. Right out of the bottle the wine is open and fragrant with cherry, dried fruits, and cinnamon spices. The palate shows good balance and is well structured medium acid with moderate fine grained tannins. Initially, there is some heat on the palate but that dissipitated after decanting for a few hours. The finish has good length and more fruits and spices and a nice warmth. Moderate complexity. A solid Vintage Port. 93

Kris
Thanks for the notes on these SW, especially given the other thread taking about SW. How would you say it's holding up for further storage?

I'd guess it's easily got another 5 to 10 years left in it. After that, probably a slow decline for another 5 to 10 years. There's no rush to drink this but it seems to be in a good spot right now.

Jeez, I remember these selling for $19.99 around 1994 when I first bought a six pack. I thought they were reasonably priced and now look at 'em, but still not really expensive considering 23 years of age!
