Talk about a country that you rarely hear about on the world's stage, this is a fantastic development and I applaud Portugal for taking a leadership role in this effort:

I am not familiar with the history of the Guantanamo Bay detention centre. Could someone explain (briefly) behind this article to me?

Lets hope that the US Administration follows through on Portugal's offer and closes down the Guantanam Bay "detention centre". I'm no lawyer but my guess is that the Administration will probably delay things till they get assurances of immunity from prosecution and civil suits.

The Bush Administration will never get this done before they leave office as it would not be good for what "W" perceives to be his "legacy." I am sure this will take place within the first year that Barack Obama is president. It is good for America and certainly good for mankind.
