A friend sent me this interesting read about the wines of The White House in DC. With a new administration about to take office, there were many fascinating factoids about the wine cellar there, number of bottles in it, the difference between outgoing and incoming chief executives and their palates, etc.

Wow, I am serving better wine than Bush normally does... That is sad. Great article. The White House should stock up with prices down and then resell some of the bottles latere on to help Social Security...

We should have our best vineyards make a White House bottling with the presidential seal. The White House could give them as gifts to leaders or as awards.

Actually the White House has many items vastly more valuable than wines. How much would the painting of George Washington by Gilbert bring? Or Abe Lincoln's items? How much would you pay to spend a night in the Lincoln bedroom? Just think how much money the Government could get!
I think Reagan was the last President who really cared what wines were served. Before that, it was Nixon, but he saved the best stuff for himself! Before Nixon, it was probably Kennedy, but it was Jackie who really cared.

Kinda makes you wonder what lies in the White House warehouse that people have forgotten about. From what I've heard Obama's personal wine cellar is about 1,000 bottles. So it will be interesting to see what he does with the current cellar.

I'd love to see what he has in his cellar. I have no idea if he is a port or madeira drinker, but that would be cool to have a "Presidential Offline"

We could always fake it by holding a Presidential vertical. Anchored by the 1952 Presidential Golden White Colheita, of course!

(Surprisingly, since "Presidential" is Dalva's label in the US, there aren't any bottles of the '52 available in the US. Only England, Portugal, and Switzerland.)

The Presidential brand is represented in a number of countries and not just in the USA. Dalva was always a little known brand by comparison.
