1944 Royal Oporto Colheita Port

2009 Port Gala
Friday, January 30th, Colheita tasting

1944 Royal Oporto Colheita

This Port was supposed to be in the first flight along with the 1934 Niepoort, 1937 Kopke, and 1941 Moreira, but it arrived late and so we tasted it last after all of the Colheita flights were complete.

Tawny with a tan overtone.

Something green on the nose, almost but not quite vegetal. More like a green plant leaf. Also some vague mint.

Good heat, with a nicely sweet flavor. There's an odd taste of an empty shoebox as well, but it's not really in the way and it doesn't make me think of a corked bottle.

A pleasant glass of Port, and a good lead-in to dinner on this night.
