1927 Fonseca Vintage Port

Drank on 09 October 2008 at The Bell offline. Decanted for four hours. A pale brown with a hint of red in the body. The nose hints at a fine malt whisky, with aromas of dried oranges. The palate was most interesting, and it certainly told me that this Port had a good deal of bottle age on it. There was no alcohol at all noticeable and the tannins were invisible to me. A spike of brown sugar carries the medium bodied palate, which then finishes with dryness reminiscent of marmalade. Good viscosity all the way through the palate which also showed aged mint nuances. When the bottle was revealed, we were all surprised as we had not guessed the Port was this old. My first time trying this extremely rare Port, and my sincere thanks to Tom Archer for bringing it to the table. 92/100.

A very generous gesture indeed. My guess epitomized the word "blind" as to me there were a lot of similarities to a bottle I had the week before, a 1975 Ferreira that I liked very much. Thanks Tom, I don't know if I will ever taste this again, but it was quite an experience and certainly one that I will never forget.
