1991 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port

Decanted around 2 pm. Tasted around 10 pm
Medium depth, garnet color with a light brick rim. Pronounced, maturing aromas of raisins, prunes, anise maybe a touch of cranberry, candied red fruits. A touch of oxidation showing after a few hours. Sweet, medium full body. Low acidity, and low, almost totally resolved tannin. A pronounced fruit character similar to the nose, sweet red fruits and that bit of oxidation that shows up. Good concentration of flavors and aromas, but no structure, which would be a problem for this port to be a long term ager. The little bit of oxidation is most likely bottle variation. Very nice to drink now though the next decade or so.

Michael,
Thanks for a TN on a VP from 1991 you basically never hear about for some reason. I've got one bottle of it, that I had posted a question about recently, so it's good to see how this is doing. I plan to open mine this month for the Virtual Tasting.

This wine was a little better than I remembered. The most amazing thing about this is that I am drinking port in the middle of a 300 mile week (although today is a recovery day).

I never hear about the 91's or 92's. I have a bit of both vintages, but do not taste them regularly. I remember the 91 Graham's was a little light style.
