1963 Niepoort Colheita (bottled 1986)
Only a tad darker than the ’57 Rocha and some sediment in the bottom of the glass. A light and refreshing nose of tea leafs and tangerines. The palate was very vicious with searing acidity, pine, mahogany, and lots of heat. There was to much acidity here for how delicate the other flavors showed and that marred an otherwise enjoyable experience. The finish was long and complex but also marred by an excessive amount of heat. I think this would have been better consumed closer to the date it was bottled. It seemed to have lost some palate presence as a result of being bottled for so long. A generous 90 points.
