1989 Kopke Vintage Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

This was part of the Pizza and Port night on Sunday at my place. Alex R. brought it and it was popped and poured, which didn't help at all. Simple hot palate and short finish made this lack luster and not much other than a glass for each person was tried. However, I came back to this the next day just out of curiosity. Well I'll be dog-gone, it's not that bad now. A lightweight palate dominated by strawberries and cherries with some chocolate on the finish, this had good ziggy acidity and fully resolved tannins. I don't see this getting any better, actually if this bottle is representative then I'd say it's fully at peak, so drink up if you got 'em. Just goes to show that decanting can be quite beneficial. Other than Quinta do Vesuvio, I can't recall every having another 1989 VP. 84 points.
