Who would you like to see do a future Forum Guest Corner appearance?

Post by Roy Hersh »

I see so many names flash each month, but as you know I enjoy feedback here and consulting with you to learn what you would like to see. So please provide me with names of personalities related to Port that would make for an interesting guest. Thanks for your help! [notworthy.gif]

And I'll throw out Dirk Niepoort. He seems to be a very dynamic personality in the trade, and friendly too.

Marilyn,

Two fine choices, thanks!

Parker? You mean the guy who rated Port for more than a decade but could never be bothered to visit Portugal after his honeymoon there in the mid-1970s, and never having visited Porto/Gaia or the Douro in all that time -- maybe the ONLY wine region in the world that he has rated for years (until 2001) that he never felt the need to bother visiting?

Nah.

Squires? What does he bring to the Port party? He has done a good thing in raising the awareness of Douro wines, but practically never mentions Port ... even though I believe he enjoys it.

In all seriousness, I don't see either raising the bar here or getting people excited. I'd much rather have someone known for Port ... like the aforementioned suggestion of James Suckling and others.

Please do keep the ideas coming. Besides the two names above ... there are very few names that I would not consider. 8--)

Before bringing people who consider themselves or want to be treated like The Queen when they visit Portugal, I'd rather want to hear from the insiders or the one living and working with their hands in the Douro.

Of couse I'll agree with anyone from Niepoort, but also the dynamics one like Alves de Sousa family that are doing projects and wines as diverse as the Niepoort, Mr Van Zeller who's been around promoting and inventing so many projects in the Douro, I think he'd be my first choice. Such a charismatic and profoundly passionate men needs to speak out and reach out with a wider audience!

I knew I would get a strong reaction from you , Roy, on Parker or Squires but, they would generate some exposure and some traffic on this site, so never say never....

Heck, so would Angelina Jolie, but that does not mean that I would want her ... here, that is.

I would second/third Dirk Niepoort and Cristiano van Zeller and also interested to hear from Christian Seely/Antonio Agrellos.
