Tasted at Port & Fran's Chocolates tasting at Fine Wines & Cigars in Redmond Town Center.
1991 Dona Matilde Colheita
A new endeavor in the US from the Barros family. According to the distributor, this may have been the first US tasting of the Port.
Medium tawny in color with just a hint of red to give it a twinkle. Light high tone oak and an almost ethereal vanilla on the nose. The vanilla made me think of lace for some reason, possibly because it was so whispery and light. Very mellow and smooth in the mouth, with ripe (sweet & dense) apricot and a rich caramelized sugar. 91 pts.
This Port was paired with Fran's Dark Chocolate Grey Salt Caramel, which worked splendidly. The caramel brought out a rich orange/tangerine note in the Port.
