First of all, the color of this wine was bit darker than I had anticipated. The nose didn't give much away at all, from all indications this seemed to be quite youthful for a 34 year old tawny. On the palate there was an overwhelming amount of brown sugar, a touch of heat and not much else. It was very sweet. Over the course of an evening it did evolve a bit with the brown sugar settling down a bit, the heat subsiding and some notes of hazlenuts and toffee coming through. By the end of the evening it had developed into a nice glass of tawny, although on balance I was a bit disappointed by the one-dimensional nature of this wine. 84 points

Marc,
Your spot on with this TN. I prefer the 1977 or '78 version, which have more complexity to them.
