Re: 1950 Taylor-Fladgate Special Quinta Vintage Port
I have a bottle of this in the cellar and tasted one about 4 years ago with Alex B. It was past its peak but a very interesting experience.
Alex and I researched the history of this bottling, including a discussion with Alastair Robertson of Taylor Fladgate, and found that only two pipes of this wine were shipped. They were bottled by Corney & Barrow; one for a private client and one for general sale, possibly to make it worth the effort for C&B to bottle the first pipe for their client. The 1947 vintage was also shipped and bottled through the same arrangement. Although we could not obtain positive confirmation, the opinion of everyone we discussed this with was that the wine was probably from Vargellas.
