1970 Burmester Vintage Port
A mature brick red in color, beginning to take on a slightly orange hue. The nose is subdued and musty, reminiscent of strawberries and marischino cherries, with a strong hint of tar as well. Initially the palate gives a pleasant dose of mellow fruit, basically echoing the flavors that came through on the nose, but comes apart on the mid-palate with some spirit showing through and the fruit falling into the background. The finish adds a bit of complexity, lingering with a nutty undertone, but it's relatively short and covered up by the prominent spirit. Overall has an out-of-balance and tired-out feel to it. Not a bottle I would recommend. Tasted 2/08, 78 pts.

Thanks for posting this. It will be helpful if someone winds up looking to buy this Port and then comes across your TN.

I noticed that some others here occasionally post older TNs and so I was curious whether I had any that might be helpful to dig up and post. I'm glad this one was appreciated. The TNDB is really a wonderful resource and I'm happy to be able to contribute. I'll have to look back through all of my notes and see if I have some others that might add helpful data points.
Cheers.

Re: Older TN, posted now.
If you can, please indicate approximately when the tasting occurred. Actual date is best; even the approximate year would be useful.

Many thanks Lamont! The more older TN's we get the more we can all learn about these increasingly older and harder to find PortsLamont Huxley wrote:I noticed that some others here occasionally post older TNs and so I was curious whether I had any that might be helpful to dig up and post.
