Tasted 3/26/2010. Decanted 24 hours. Typical deep garnet color for a young VP, but not dense. Deep grape smell with a bit of spice. Tastes a little thin, but nice tones of grape, blackberry and huckleberry. Piquant, dry finish. Strong tannins.
This port was blind tasted along with the following 2007 VPs with the following scores on a 20 point scale:
Graham’s 2007 VP 18 points
Dow’s 2007 VP 17 points
Burmester 2007 VP 15 points
The Dow and Graham are an excellent comparison of similar, excellent ports of the same vintage. Out of 10 port friends 4 preferred Graham’s, 2 Dow’s, 4 were equivalent. Only 1 had Burmester anything but 3rd in this line-up—but it was well received nonetheless.
