1975 Gould Campbell Vintage Port
A bottle I've never had and since it's fun to try new things I cracked this open. It's only been decanted for an hour, yet it's drinking nicely already. A light ruby color is very advanced for its age. Plenty of violets and rose pedals on the nose and palate also are advanced for its young age. While soft and simple this is still a decent Port. If this bottle is representative, this Port is fully mature and should be consumed rather soon as I don't see it getting any better. A clipped finish is its major downfall, and which keeps it from a higher score. 87 Points

Wow, when I saw that title, I thought "here's a wine nobody has had." Sounds pretty good considering the vintage. One would not expect much more from Taylor and like.

You know I never even thought about that, but you're correct. I just checked our Tasting Note Database and there is no other TN for this vintage. And yes, it was pretty decent considering the year. But I'd only buy it again if the price was super cheap.

Just for grins, if the finish was great what would the score have been?

A better finish would probably have gotten it an 89 as it was still lacking a bit on the palate. Well balanced without any excess heat but it just was a tad simple overall with the clipped finish being it's biggest detractor. I was more surprised at how well this showed out of the gate, so we'll see how it does tonight. I've saved a 1/2 bottle so I'll try it again and see if there is any change after almost 24 hours.Roy Hersh wrote:Just for grins, if the finish was great what would the score have been?
