BASEBALL CONTEST - Port Prize

Post by Roy Hersh »

Select the AL & NL Champions and then decide who the World Series Champion will be. All entries must be in by August 15th, but you only get two stabs at this one without edited posts.

If there is only one to select the correct combo above, the prize is settled.

If there is more than one to get the right combination, the first two to pick the AL & NL Champions and WS winner will go to the final round.

Please answer the bonus question which will be the official tie breaker: How many games will it take the WS winner to lock up the title?

Port prize: Pristine bottles of 1977 & 1980 Gould Campbell VPs from my cellar.

So you are suggesting that the Yankees beat the Phillies for the 3rd time in a World Series? And you think the Yankees will win in consecutive years over the same team (Phillies) and by six games again (4-2 in 2009)? [cheers.gif] Statistically, the likelihood is modest but I admire your being the first to make a prediction! [notworthy.gif]

I liked the irony of the prediction and was wondering who would pick it up [notworthy.gif] . My son is a Yankee fan and I'm a Phillie fan so I'm going with our hearts and a win for him.

I'll post another shot closer to the 8/15 deadline.

..and Moses..no way the Phils lose to the Sox

The other interesting angle of Yanks vs. Phils is that the Yanks won in '77 and the Phils won in '80....

Well , since Boston couldn't win a Stanley cup If there life dependid on It , and the chances of Orr coming out of retirement are nill , I'll give them a chance for the WS .
B'Sox in 6 over the Yanks .
Then sox over cardinals in 7.

Well this isn't cricket!!- as a brit i know nothing about MLB, but know a fair bit about NFL (i'm a Ram's fan, so we don't talk about it much at the Mo!!) and NHL (Go Canucks! the underdog never winning the stanley cup thing!)

So i've had a look @ the present standings (i'll do anything for good Port!)and decided that as 2 teams that i've heard of are leading their divisions (but not the Yankees as that's just predictable)i'll pick them.

So here goes, mock the uninformed if you wish;

White Sox's v Cardinals - Cardinals win in 6 for WS

You gotta be in it, to win it!

Just over 2 weeks left.

Two days until the end of the trade deadline, is that what you're waiting for? 8--)

Well I still think my first guess is correct, but I'll make a second just to have it in the system and take the Red Sox over the Braves in 7.

Although the contest is now over, we're waiting to see if we have a winner. Some pretty intriguing matchups above. I'm hoping for NY & Philly, in a grudge rematch. [1974_eating_popcorn.gif]

I feel fortunate---I'm the only one to have both of my picks (Yankees v Phillies) even in the playoffs. Go Yanks!...and I'm a Phillie Phanatic! [dance2.gif]

Yeah, but I called the same two teams, although not in the contest. I am distinctly NOT a Phillies fan and would like nothing better than a chance to repeat last year's outcome against the same team. [berserker.gif]
