1977 Taylor Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

From David Spriggs' 50th birthday party at Roy's house. My palate still seemed to be a little off, but not nearly as badly as it was on Saturday night for the FTLOP 5th Anniversary party.

1977 Taylor Vintage Port
9 hours decant time

Color: Still very dark red. Clean rim. If I hadn't known, I'd have probably guessed a 1985. Very youthful looking.
Nose: Alcohol, soft raspberry, mild strawberry. Faint minerals. Looking for spice, but not finding it here either (as with the 1935).
Palate: Med soft entry, then tannins and acidity. Sweet and round, interrupted only briefly by a very slight edge that immediately vanishes. Excellent structure.
Finish: Tannins, warmth, soft sugar. Resolves with time into stem and then finally apples.

Score: 95 points. Simply outstanding. Will continue to age for many more years, and may hold at its plateau for decades.
