2002 Bredell's LBV

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 24 hours - South Africa. LBV. From a half bottle, this was the Butcher's Shop own label house port. Decanted from a small amount of fine sediment and having left a film on the sides of the bottle. Deep red and opaque centre; quite closed on the nose, just showing a little dusty and perfumed bramble fruit. Dry entry with restrained fruit. Dustiness comes through strongly, as do the gentle tannins and good dose of acidity. Patience in the mouth is rewarded with a larger fruit presence, but the wine is fairly simple and straightforward. Pleasant aftertaste, starts slightly harshly from the acidity; dominated by lingering loganberry. A wine which can be drunk with enjoyment today but will be equally good in another 5 years. 86 points
