Decant: 5½ hours - From magnum, double decanted. Deep centre, but clear browning edge. Nose slightly dusty, hint of alcohol and strawberries. Sweet entry but fiery midpalate as spirit shows through strongly. Thick texture. Raisins and sweet strawberries come through on the midpalate. Aftertaste is first dominated by the spirit, but that fades to be replaced by the classic dark chocolate. Not a long length. Disappointing compared to previous experiences with this wine. The wine did improve in the glass over the course of 30 minutes with the heat fading significantly on the nose and the palate, but not so much as to dramatically improve the score that was given on the initial taste. 86 points
