TN: 2000 Taylor Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha Vintage Port

Decant: 2 hours - Deep red colour, some slight fading on the rim but with a solidly opaque centre. Dumb on the nose, a very faint blueberryand after a while standing in the glass a spearmint tone develops. Very sweet entry; restrained blueberry fruit and an incredibly silky texture. It takes along time for the tannins to come through, but when they appear the are very firm, but also very gentle. There is a lovely spiciness to the acidity of the wine. The fruit is not obvious, but the whole wine is balanced and harmonious despite being so big and burly. The aftertaste is big and leads to a long and tingling aftertaste that is experienced through numb cheeks. How can a wine like this be judged? So unlike any other young wine. Decades from maturity. 90 points
