1999 Burmester Vintage Port

Post by Claus R »

Burmester Vintage 1999

Decanted 2 hours

Appearence: Clouded, medium deep red, although not as clouded as the Burmester 1995

Nose: seems a bit closed but its only been aired for 2 hours, some musty darkness/cask influence, almost no heat at all, and definately some liquorice in there, the grapes are quite suppressed

Taste: here's a surprise! I was expecting a massive grape attack but finding it to be very laid back, with the grapes arriving very slowly, slight strawberry hints and maybe some dark chocolate?, again no heat at all

Finish: Short with a little berry pop-up/bite

regards,
claus

Now roughly 4 hours on:

Cloudiness has almost dissappeared - wine now dark red, maybe a slight white edge on the wine is starting to appear?
Now with full blown wine sweetness on both the nose and palate, with loads of strawberries and blackberries and very slightly drying on the finish

Cheers,
Claus
