2000 Dona Matilde Colheita Port

Post by Glenn E. »

Tasted at DOC Restaurant in Folgosa on 05-OCT-2010 as part of the 2010 Port Harvest Tour.
Pairing provided by Chef Rui Paula

2000 Dona Matilde Colheita Port

Color: Deep tawny with significant red.
Nose: Apricot, caramel, butterscotch. Some alcohol. Faint bread grains.
Palate: Full body, medium sweetness. Red fruits and still some decent tannins. Decent acidity. Som elight honey. Too much ruby left in it - it feels more like a hybrid than a tawny. Could really be great with another 10-15 years of age.
Finish: Starts tart and tannic, then shows warmth. Good length, but develops a faint bite late.

Score: 87 points. Very good, but as noted it feels like it needs at least another 10-15 years to really shine.
