2005 Quevedo LBV Port

Post by Glenn E. »

Tasted at Porto Quevedo in S. João da Pesqueira on 06-OCT-2010 as part of the 2010 Port Harvest Tour.
Blind tasting of 2004 LBV, 2005 LBV, and 2008 VP.

2005 Quevedo LBV

Color: Dark garnet, about 1/2" fade at the rim. Opaque in the center. Decent legs.
Nose: Slightly softer than the '04, with more blueberry. Still plenty of blackberry, though. Also some fresh oak.
Palate: Tart red fruits. Seems very dry to me. Good tannins and acidity. Not really my style.

Score: 89 points. As noted, not really my style. After tasting all 3, I guessed that this was younger than the '04 (which I thought was an '03) and that it was an LBV. Not knowing what my options were, I guessed 2005 LBV just to write something down. Surprise! I guessed it.
