2006 Quinta do Crasto LBV Port -- (cask sample)

Post by Glenn E. »

Tasted at Quinta do Crasto with Miguel Roquette on 08-OCT-2010 as part of the 2010 Port Harvest Tour.

2006 Quinta do Crasto LBV
final blend cask sample

Red overtones in a dark glass. Nose on the red side of fruity; slightly less expressive than the 2005. Balanced and smooth in the mouth, not quite as sweet as the 2005. Good tannins and acidity - will do well with some aging. Not quite as nice to drink now as the 2005, but probably a better future.

Score: 93 points. One of the best LBVs I've had in a long time - I hope we can find it in the US!

I agree with you Glenn, this was a very interesting LBV.
Really want to buy this one when it will be available on the market.

The other two ports that were high up in my scores were LBV 1992 and the Constantino 1900.
Based on the seqeunce of my notes, it seems I tasted the LBV 1992 before the 1900 Constantino.

Interesting... my notes have the sequence 2005 LBV, 2006 LBV, 2007 VP, 2008 VP, 1900 Colheita, 1992 LBV, and 1999 VP. I was out in the front room, though, so got my glass of the Colheita right away when it was opened. Perhaps those of you in the dining room had already been served the 1992 LBV?

(Or maybe my notes are out of order? I really can't remember much about the order of things while we were there.)

I have exactly the same tasting sequence as you, with the exception of the 1900 Constantino and the 1992 LBV. I was in the dining room, and by the time I got my glass of 1900 it was less than half left in the bottle. So that is the reason, as we had the 1992 LBV before the 1900.

Great experience to be at Quinta do Crasto, especially since I finally did the treading in the laagres.
