40 Year Old Tawny Port by Quinta da Romaneira

Post by Glenn E. »

The first bottle out of a case that I purchased directly from the Quinta.

Quinta da Romaneira 40 Year Old Tawny Port

Color: Very brown, though not mahogany dark. Some red or orange highlights.
Nose: Slight VA, dried fruits.
Palate: Wow! Explosive flavor. Great brown sugar, walnuts, dried blood orange, toasted caramel. Very nice acidity, but low citrus flavor. Huge and powerful, but smooth enough to keep bringing you back for another sip.
Finish: Exceptional length - I felt like I could still taste it the next morning. An interesting dryness like the feeling you get from the skin of a walnut right after you swallow. More brown sugar and caramel.

Score: 96 points. Wonderful stuff.

I would love to join you for a few sips but today my mother is over for the day. Hopefully during the week, if there's any left. Otherwise, the next time you open one. I have a Madeira open that is great too. But the newsletter MUST get finished before I can play.
