1977 Dow Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

American Crossword Puzzle Tournament Dow Vertical
New York City
March 19, 2011

My wife participates in the ACPT every year, and conveniently there is a lively Port tasting group in New York City. So every year we plan a Port tasting to coincide with the tournament, and this was the 2011 edition.

1977 Dow Vintage Port

Color: Medium red, roughly equivalent to the 1970 and 1985.
Nose: Dusty, softly sweet. Faint alcohol.
Palate: Mellow fruit, some soap, and good rich flavor. Heat is good. Tannins seem light for a 1977.
Finish: Pretty good - not superb, but good length, heat, and tail.

Score: 92 points. No sign of VA despite the rumors I've heard that it can be a problem with this vintage from Dow.
