- 1994 Quinta do Noval Porto Late Bottled Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (2/21/2008)
Good complexity, with some blackberry and chocolate on the palate. Very nice wine and it is drinking well right now. (90 pts.)

Stewart,
I quite like the '94 Noval LBV. I bought a case of half-bottles and over time they went into an awkward phase but the last bottle I had a few weeks ago showed signs of turning the corner. Like you I thought it very nice but will hold off on opening another one for a little while longer.
Cheers...............Mahmoud

I have had three cases of this wine and still have 9 bottles in my UK locker. It was my all time favorite LBV until recently. It has matured nicely and still shows some power as well as some decadent, evolved flavors. I like it a lot and think this will be drinking beautifully in 2-3 more years as it near 20 years of age.

I think you're bang-on about it being a point in a few years.Roy Hersh wrote: It was my all time favorite LBV until recently. Would you be referring to the 2005 Dow LBV?Roy Hersh wrote: It was my all time favorite LBV until recently.

Mahmoud,
No, I was referring to the 1994 Noval LBV. Great juice.

Roy,
Maybe I misunderstood. I knew the '94 Noval LBV was your favourite LBV but you said "until recently" so I assumed that another one had replaced it; and having read your report on LBVs, and how much you liked the '05 Dow, I thought it was the one.

I actually scored both the 1994 Pocas and 2005 Portal above the Dow's 2005 LBV. The Portal is amazing and for my palate, more delicious and complex than the 2003 Taylor that everyone praises.

Gosh, you're right. I read it some time ago and for some reason the Dow was on my mind when I posted. We don't get the Pocas here in Edmonton and I haven't seen the Portal LBV (we do get other Portal ports and wines) so perhaps it was just a case of me fixated on the "relevant" top-rated LBV. Sorry about that.Roy Hersh wrote:I actually scored both the 1994 Pocas and 2005 Portal above the Dow's 2005 LBV. Much as I would have liked to I wont be there. I was supposed to leave the country late September so I didn't register for the event. It so happened that I had to postpone my trip but now the event is fully booked. In any case I might have to leave Edmonton the week of the tasting. Perhaps next time.Roy Hersh wrote:Mahmoud,
