1955 Cockburn Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 5 hours - Bottled by Peatling & Cawdron; decanted cleanly of a huge deposit of very solid sediment. Deep, rich burnt sienna in colour; 30% opaque. A little hot on the nose, cherries and spearmint. Medium weight, lovely texture in the mouth, quite thick. Lovely balance, neither sweet nor acidic; very dry; gains weight on the palate. Lots of burnt orange flavours. Hot aftertaste, with the heat fading only slowly. Huge finish, very spicy and dry, masses of concentrated bitter-orange and burnt sugar. A very good wine at the peak of its drinking plateau. Initially 92/100 but this gained weight and flavour after a few more hours in the glass. 93 points
