1977 Warre Vintage Port
Decant: 1½ hours - Light red in colour; 50% opaque. Attractive appearance. Warm on the nose, with lots of all spice, nutmeg and stewed raisins. Sweet in the mouth, restrained sweet red fruit. Big levels of fruit that fill the mouth. Refined and mature; elegant with hints of dry tannins. Really enjoyable aftertaste, and a big finish of great length. Excellent port - really impressive. 89 points

Re: 1977 Warre Vintage Port
Decant: 5 hours, then 17 hours
The cork was in fantastic condition, soaked about 1/3 through and surprisingly dense. This excellent condition probably contributed to a wine that seems to have been slower to open than the other examples in the database. At 5 hours, it was working to open, with wonderful fresh tea, fruit and spice characters in a lighter, but still very tannic body. At 17 hours, this was probably a touch past ideal, but was much more approachable, with raspberry iced tea, baking spices, and fresh orange and just a hint of tawny-ness balanced with perfect and fresh amounts of acidity and tannin. Delicious. I agree with other notes that this should be consumed in the next 5 years for peak drinking.
