1977 Fonseca Vintage Port

Post by Russ K »

Port Day!

Opened at around 5 pm, decanted.

1. pop n pour - bit of cherry sour, bottle skank, needs some time.
2. 1 hr. Starting to open up. medium ruby, not much bricking on the rim, just a hint of tawny. Balanced flavors coming through, definitely rich berry flavor, currant? berries and whipped cream? yum....
3. 3 to 4 hrs. just peaking, time to bottle back up to save some for tomorrow. holding consistently for the last few hours, seems like the rim has become more tawny. Very bright flavour, rich and appealing. Almost undetectible alcohol, beautifully balanced with a clean and thick finish, just an absolute pleasant libation by any standards.
4. Next day, WOW. after 24 hrs inthe fridge plugged, I finished off this bottle. It was certainly different the next day, even more mellow. Could of been all teh rye I was drinking inthe afternoon though. Outstanding, so I am giving it another point.
94 points.
