2009 Quinta do Vale Dona Maria Vintage Port

Post by Rune EG »

Decanted 6 hrs. Medium dark red colour. Intense aroma of young, fresh fruit with a pepperish style. Medium body. Fruity style also in the taste, some sticky alcohol, but a bit less than in their 2005 VP and 2007 VP. Long aftertaste dominated by alcohol. Improves after extended decanting time. 87 pts.

I assume the score was after a long decant? If so, sounds like their dry wine got all the good grapes in 2009.

Yes, the score was after the long decant.
In the beginning it was at the low 80's.
I am not to keen on their ports from the 2000-decade.
Have recently tried their Vintage Ports from 2005, 2007 and 2009, and in addition 2007 LBV and they all end up in the 80s.

However, their Douro red from 2009 is something completely different. 94 pts in my book, which is very high.
Had two bottles so far and both showed the same good way.
