2005 Niepoort LBV Port

Post by John M. »

Informally tasted at a family gathering.

375 mm bottle. Decanted 10 hours prior. Medium deep purple with ruby on the meniscus. Slight black pepper, leather aroma over dark fruit. Taste has a piquant tone, again the pepper and and an earthy tone. Not as fruity as I remember (then with cherries but none of that here), appears to have matured a bit and seems to explain the color change as well. The taste still has a dark fruit tone to it, but I'm not getting the berries I have previously. This is the 4th TN I have on this and I've scored it between 91-94 each time--not overly complex but immensely enjoyable. Moderate aftertaste length. I'm now out of this--would like to find some wait a few more years.

Now you have to try the 2007 Niepoort LBV, the current release.
